Sensitive Shaving Solutions

Lockdown has meant a different type of working. It has its pros and cons as far as freedom to work from home, but I have maintained my motivation and sense of routine by setting allocated work hours, and of course getting dressed and groomed as if I was in the office.

Although I may not need to shave every day or wear a tie on the occasions, I meet a client I do need to resume the groom! This has meant my daily pattern of skincare has changed. When I do wear a shirt and tie or need to shave my skin is far more sensitive. That’s why I tried some of the leading sensitive skin creams available.

Kalme Undercoat

This is the first time that I have used Kalme and I am impressed. The simple but smart packaging displays a cream labelled as an ‘undercoat’ to be used with make-up, but don’t let that fool you, it has been perfect for my post shave skin.

Working from home has allowed me to grow a little stubble that I would usually not be able to have in the office setting. When I do have meetings, I am required to shave and I have noticed that a mix of non-shaving, stress and heat has meant my skin is more sensitive. Couple this is a starched collar and tie rubbing on your skin and it leads to ingrown hairs, spots, redness and rashes.

Kalme has been perfect solution for my sensitivity while also providing moisture and protection. Why? Well here is the science… It contains tetrapeptide ingredient called Skinasensyl, which has been dermatologically tested* to reduce the nerve response to external irritants by decreasing the release of pro-inflammatory neuromediators in the skin. By doing this the skin’s tolerance is increased and sensations of pain and discomfort are reduced. In trials, the de-sensitising effect of Skinasensyl was evaluated by measuring the Cutaneous Thermal Sensitivity (CTS), using a thermal probe applied on the skin.

The cream is thick but easy to apply and is soft on sensitive skin. It is perfume free which avoids any clash with aftershave or cause for a headache! It works well as a moisturiser alone and it’s so gentle it does not irritate my eyes, newly shaved skin or feel greasy.

KALME Undercoat costs £9.95 and is available from www.kalme.co.uk

The Bluebeards Revenge Cooling Moisturiser

Perfect for the recent heat wave is the cooling moisturiser from Bluebeards Revenge.

I have used this brand before, so I had a sense that this would be another winner in the range.

The Bluebeards Revenge is a men’s shave, beard, hair and body grooming brand based in the sunny South West of England. Established in 2010 it has grown from strength to strength based on its innovative products that actually work!

The cooling moisturiser is another excellent product from the Bluebeard range. It has a distinctive smell that you would associate with a clean and well-groomed face. The Bluebeards Revenge Cooling Moisturiser has been specially designed to refresh and rehydrate men’s skin on a daily basis. A blend of prickly pear, fenugreek and jojoba oil make it essential for relieving irritation and inflammation, as well as helping to reduce dark circles under the eyes.

It comes in a metal cylinder with a pump action, easy to apply and does not leave white smears on any stubble or facial hair which is important especially when heading out for the evening.
