Tisserand Rosemary Hair Oil

I’d been struggling with my hair: it’s coloured (so the ends were a little fried), it felt dry and brittle, and I was noticing more shedding than usual (which, during pregnancy, felt all the more alarming). I wanted something gentle, natural, and vegan and this oil ticked the boxes: it’s labelled as suitable for all hair types, and the brand states it’s 100% natural, vegan-certified. The ingredient list appealed: sweet almond oil, sunflower seed oil, black seed oil, and rosemary essential oil. The rosemary bit in particular I liked because I’ve heard (anecdotally) that rosemary oil can help with scalp circulation and hair strength. It also smells amazing.

The instructions say to apply a small amount to scalp, massage in, comb through to ends, leave at least 30 minutes before washing. Because of my pregnancy and the brittle/dry hair situation, I decided to try leaving it on overnight (instead of the minimum 30 minutes) a few times a week, essentially as an intensive overnight treatment .I generally used it 2-3 times a week: massage into the scalp when it was dry, and run it through the ends, then sleep with it, then wash next morning.

The result? I was not disappointed. The oil has a softening effect. After the very first use, I noticed my hair felt softer especially at the ends. The brittle “coarse” feeling became less pronounced. The sweet almond + sunflower oil mix seems to have helped restore some softness.
I also massaged the oil into my scalp and along my hair line where I noticed the most thinning. Because I massaged into the scalp, it felt more stimulated, and a little less “dry” at the root than before. I got fewer of those flaky, tight-scalp feelings (which were partly due to dye + pregnancy hormonal changes).
For coloured hair, the oil seemed to add a little shine and tame some of the frizz. My hair therefore looked a little healthier (to me) than before.
I was hoping for a marked reduction in shedding (given the pregnancy stage), and while I did feel like things improved a little (less coarse ends, healthier scalp), I cannot say the oil completely stopped hair loss, but it does not claim to and nor did I expect it to. Of course none of us can guarantee that an oil will cure shedding caused by hormonal changes, but I think it helped mitigate the dryness and brittleness which can make shedding worse.
Depending on how long your hair is (mine is mid-length) and how often you use it, you’ll go through the bottle at a moderate rate. So keep in mind you’re paying for frequent use if you’re doing overnight treatments 2-3 times/week. Cost wise it is well within budget and worth it!
Pregnancy caution: Because I was pregnant, I took extra care to patch-test and ensure I felt comfortable using an essential-oil product. The instructions do advise to consult a healthcare professional before using essential oils during pregnancy. Tisserand If you’re pregnant and cautious, this is worth noting.
All in all, I’d say this rosemary hair oil is very good for what I was aiming for: improving dryness and brittleness in treated hair, adding shine, and giving my scalp a little boost. It’s not a miracle cure for hair loss (especially where shedding is driven by pregnancy hormones), but it certainly helped my hair look and feel healthier.
If I had to sum it up: a gentle, naturally-derived treatment oil that works well for dry, coloured, brittle hair and offers a comforting overnight ritual when you're willing to give a little extra time.
