Vegan Skin Treats You Will Love!

I’ve been on the lookout for items that are vegan, kind to my skin, ideally suited to those hormone-driven skin shifts of pregnancy (hello, redness, sensitivity, breakouts, dryness) and yet won’t break the bank. It isn’t easy to decipher all the labels in the shops, and work out what really is vegan and safe for pregnancy not to mention that a lot of my skin issues are temporary I hope and some need more management than others.I stumbled across a vegan, skin sensitive range that ticks the boxes, White Rabbit Natural Skincare. They do a huge range of items, but I picked those with a rose scent as it is my absolute favourite.

This is positioned as a revitalising day cream, with rose and frankincense, aimed at anti-ageing. Because my skin is on the sensitive side (and during pregnancy everything seems to flare a bit more easily), I’m always cautious with “anti-ageing” labels (which sometimes mean stronger actives). That said, the rose + frankincense combo felt gentle and comforting.

On application, the texture was richer than a light gel, so it gave a nice sense of moisture, which is welcome when hormones leave skin feeling a bit “off” or dry.

My skin felt comfortable all morning, no stinging, no redness; that’s a good sign in my book. For someone seeking a comfortable, gentler day cream during hormonal skin-shifts, this is a solid pick. If you were more oily or had active breakouts, you might prefer something lighter.

This one is specifically labelled for “sensitive skin”, emphasising rosehip and camellia oils/extracts, which are broadly known to be soothing, balancing and less aggressive.

Because hormones often bring on uneven skin tone, redness, and I find my skin asking for gentler oils rather than big actives, this was very appealing.

The texture is lighter than the rose & frankincense one (in my feeling), which is a plus if you’re prone to slight oiliness or combination skin.

I liked that it felt quite calming and less “perfumed”. That matters a lot when pregnant—fragrance sensitivity often goes up.

It settled nicely under my make-up and didn’t feel like it was going to slide off or be too rich. I would suggest this one for day time and the use of the Anti-Ageing Rose & Frankincense Day Cream maybe twice a week. I am no dermatologist but I think this worked well when I had make up days and those days I was fresh faced I went with the heavier anti-ageing cream.

Although this is listed as a hair / scalp product, I chose to include it because in pregnancy many of us get changes to scalp/hair (thinning, dryness, itchiness, sensitivity) and we may be looking for vegan, plant-oil rich, kind products. From the brand’s page: “carefully considered and blended together a variety of incredible plant ingredients such as oat oil, olive squalane and white poppy seed oil…” etc.

I found this particularly useful for days when my scalp felt tight/itchy (pregnancy hormones can do weird things). The oil/serum texture meant I could apply a small amount to the scalp (especially around the hairline) and feel relief.

Because it’s vegan and plant-oil based, I felt more comfortable using it than some mainstream scalp treatments which can be heavy or include stronger actives.

I also used a tiny drop after washing my hair, on damp scalp before drying, and noticed my scalp felt less “scratchy” overnight.

I like that many of these are soothing oils it contains (jojoba, oat, calendula) and plant-derived squalane (olive), which often play well with sensitive skin.

It is worth noting that tea tree oil is present, which is okay (I had no issues) but for pregnancy/hormonal skin one must consider any strong essential oil; I used a little and patch-tested first.

Under-eye area for me has felt more fragile during pregnancy—dark circles, puffiness, sometimes dryness. So using a kinder eye cream that doesn’t sting is important. I found this cream applied smoothly, no sting, and gave a gentle immediate “fresh” feeling rather than heavy “firming” cream.

I noticed a slight matte finish which I appreciated, as some richer eye creams can migrate into fine lines or crease. After a week I felt my under-eyes looked a little more rested (hard to say how much is product vs sleep/less stress) but overall comfortable.

I would use this on make up and non-make up days along with the face creams.

Overall, the range is easily available, all very skin friendly and affordable! Even more important now I am due on maternity leave and reduced pay.

(As always: check with your doctor or dermatologist before using anything new while pregnant.)
