A Little Bump Love: My Pregnancy Skincare Saviours from Mother Gaia

I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant with baby number two, and let me just say, my skin is having a time. With my first, I was a little clueless and didn’t really do much to look after my bump in the early stages. This time around, I promised myself I’d treat my body with a bit more kindness and give my growing belly and limbs some extra love. That’s where Mother Gaia has completely come to my rescue.

I started using the Mother Gaia Tummy Balm a few weeks ago and I genuinely look forward to putting it on every evening. The texture is rich and buttery, but it melts beautifully into the skin without that sticky or overly greasy feeling some balms leave behind. It’s packed with shea and cocoa butter, so it feels like a proper treat.

My skin just drinks it in and stays soft for hours afterwards. I’ve noticed a real difference too in the itchiness I had around my belly and hips with my first pregnancy hasn’t been an issue this time, and I’m convinced it’s because I’ve been more consistent with moisturising, especially with this balm.

Now, the body oil is another winner. I was a bit wary at first because oils can be hit or miss, but this one’s absolutely gorgeous. It’s light but nourishing and smells divine in that subtle, calming, earthy way that doesn’t clash with your senses (which is a godsend when you’re pregnant and smells can be so overwhelming). I like to use the oil in the mornings after my shower when I’ve got a bit more time, and then use the balm in the evenings before bed. The oil sinks in surprisingly quickly, which means I’m not left faffing around waiting to get dressed. It leaves my skin feeling silky but not slippery, and I honestly feel like it’s helped keep everything a bit more elastic and hydrated, especially around my boobs and thighs, which are definitely doing their own thing this pregnancy.

What I love about both of these is how natural and gentle they feel. My skin is really sensitive at the moment, and I’ve had to be so careful about what I use. With Mother Gaia, I feel totally safe and pampered all at once. It’s like a little ritual of self-care each day, which as a busy mum-to-be chasing after a toddler, is something I desperately need. I know no product can promise to completely prevent stretch marks, but if I can soothe my skin and feel a bit more comfortable in my ever-changing body, I’m all for it.

Honestly, I can’t recommend these two enough. They’ve turned what could feel like a slightly awkward and itchy stage of pregnancy into something really comforting and lovely. I’ll definitely be stocking up as my bump keeps growing,  and might even keep using them after baby arrives, just because they make my skin feel that good.

The products are available to purchase from the GAIA Skincare website and from selected spa partners across the UK.
