As the weather draws colder and skin gets dryer, redder and paler. It means that every little imperfection is shown to the max. One thing I suffer from which is pretty common in the winter is red cheeks, thread veins and other issues with telangiectasia.
Telangiectasia refers to the small dilated blood vessels near the surface of the skin or mucous membranes. These dilated blood vessels can develop anywhere on the body but are commonly seen on the face around the nose, cheeks, and chin.
These tiny blood vessels can make themselves known in various ways such as couperose skin. This is characterized by the visible presence of capillaries which are usually bright red in colour and occur due to poor elasticity of the capillary walls. If you skin is thinner, dryer and paler you are more prone to this condition. It can be caused by a variety of things but for me its main cause was changes in temperature, stress and exercise.
Telangiectasia also refers to thread veins, the tiny blood vessels which run close to the surface of the skin and look like fine red, or sometimes purple, wiggly lines. Thread veins tend to develop as we age and our skin and blood vessels become less elastic. I am lucky enough not to have these on my face but do have them on my legs due to hormonal changes.
They are similar to spider veins which are small, twisted blood vessels that are visible through the skin. They may be red, purple, or blue and most often appear on the legs or face.
Spider veins are the result of weak or damaged valves in the veins. When the valves do not open to allow blood to leave the veins, blood backs up and the veins swell. It can be caused by hormones, age, standing for long periods.
All these conditions although not harmful to your body are unsightly and a natural part of ageing. There is something we can do to improve them!
Swissforce, as the name suggests a Swiss brand make the unique formula in the Couperose Balm. The cream is a lightweight no greasy balm which reduces the appearance of couperose, thread & spider veins.
How does it work? The ingredients are key. The balm contains red vine leaves, roses and qinko products that improve the appearance of the skin and reduce redness. This is coupled with calendula which is moisturizer; calming and soothing. Swiss cress and soy proteins are used for even skin tone and prevents phot-aging (also known as "dermatoheliosis" is a term used for the characteristic changes to skin induced by chronic UVA and UVB exposure). Purple- red algae extract acts as a toner and crystal mint pigment acts as an illuminator to the skin.
The balm has a really light fragrance, subtle but beautiful. It is non-greasy and applied well to the skin. It is quickly absorbed and great for all skin types. I used it morning and evening after cleansing on my cheeks to reduce redness and I am impressed with the results.
